A lot of newer laptops, like 2019 and beyond, have the option for S3 taken out on a firmware level so that it's not even possible. I can confirm that it doesn't work on my Lenovo Thinkbook 16p. When I put in this cmd line I lose all sleep options entirely and can only hibernate. If this does work on ASUS laptops then I may have to switch.

So a good rule of thumb is to have a swap space slightly bigger than the physical memory the laptop has. So I used 1.6GB of swap for 1GB memory in the next Ubuntu release installation (I am now on Ubuntu 10.04) and I can hibernate the laptop without any issue. Another way to make it work is to use swap file and not swap partition.
